Nursery Furniture: baby cribs, dressers, chests, convertible furniture and more

Tips and hints for buying furniture for your nursery

The furniture in your baby’s nursery will probably be the biggest expense you will make for your baby. Nursery furniture should be planned well in advance to allow you time to choose carefully and to ensure that any custom-made furniture will be available in time for the birth.

Nursery furniture should last at least the first three years of your baby’s life and can even last longer if you purchase convertible furniture. Convertible furniture can include such things as a baby’s crib that grows with your child, and eventually turns into a full size bed or a baby change table that converts to a dresser.

The most important pieces of furniture for your nursery include the crib, baby changing table and storage dresser or chest. A rocker is also a nice added addition for nursing your baby. These will generally be the most expensive items you will purchase.

If you are purchasing a changing table, consider a dresser style design with storage underneath the changing pad to store diapers. This is particularly suitable for smaller rooms where space is at a premium. Try purchasing a change table that can eventually be used as a dresser when your baby outgrows diapers.

A hutch is an excellent all-round storage device for a nursery. A hutch not only stores baby clothes and other baby products but is also a great way of displaying the baby’s toys and keeping things neat and tidy.

The nursery furniture that you choose should be functional, meet the necessary safety standards and be durable enough to last.
