Your baby’s nursery
should not only be bright and fun but should also be a safe and
secure environment for both you and your baby.
Things to
consider when decorating a nursery
1. Colors
Unless you have money to burn and can afford to redecorate often, it
is worthwhile choosing a color scheme that will take your baby
through to school age and beyond. Neutral colors are a good choice.
From here you can then add and change wall art, furniture, area rugs
and nursery accessories to suit the changing age of your toddler.
2. Theme
As with colors, the theme that you choose should suit not only a
baby but also a toddler and if you choose wisely, it should take
your child through to at least school age. Try to avoid typical baby
themes that will only last for a couple of years. The nursery
decorations and accessories that you choose should complement the
theme.
3. Furniture
Baby furniture can be expensive. One of the biggest expenses you
will encounter when decorating your nursery will be the baby’s crib.
The crib will be the focal point of the room and not only needs to
look good but also needs to be safe and secure for your baby.
Convertible cribs
are an option for those wishing to save money in the long term.
Convertible baby cribs can convert from a crib to a toddler bed and
eventually into a full size bed.
4. Lighting
Before you begin to decorate the nursery, consider the natural light
that flows into the room. At certain times of the day, the room will
generate more light. It is important that you place the baby’s crib
in an area that will not see direct sunlight. A dimmer switch is
also a good option as it will allow you to lighten the room without
waking your baby.
