Is there anything quite as special as decorating a room for your new
baby? Nursery decor, crib bedding, wall murals and rocking chairs,
changing tables, lamps with cuddly teddy bears and choo choo trains
and floppy-eared puppies - they all go into making up the room in
which your precious new bundle of joy will spend a great deal of his
first few years of life. Is it any wonder that parents go to such
trouble to choose just the right baby nursery decor for their
baby-to-be? |

Whether you start with the walls and work your way in, or choose
your furniture and work around it, you'll want the best for your
baby. Nursery decor may be a secondary consideration, but it doesn't
have to be forgotten - or even in the background. Choose a theme for
the baby's room that you like, and start building around it. You
might find inspiration in children's books, fantasy, the world
around you, nursery rhymes - just about anything at all. Whatever
theme you choose, though, there are some basics that no nursery
should be without.
The crib is, of course, the single most important piece of furniture
you'll buy for your baby. You can buy cribs that are made of metal,
plastic or wood, in styles ranging from contemporary through lavish
French Provincial. Whether you choose a reproduction antique Jenny
Lind crib or a chic contemporary corner crib for your baby, nursery
decor should take a back seat to safety. If you are given a family
heirloom, handmade crib or purchase one at a yard sale, be sure that
the crib meets all safety standards before putting your precious
bundle to sleep in it.
The second piece of furniture that most new parents choose is a
changing table. Nearly every line of cribs has a matching line of
changing tables, dressers and other furniture for baby's nursery in
every decor or style. Whether your nursery decor is post-modern,
fluffy bunny, All-Disney or Where's Waldo?, choose a changing table
that puts the baby at a comfortable height - about the same height
as your kitchen counters. Be certain that it has attached safety
straps and room for all the supplies you need for changing baby on
the top so you don't have to risk taking your eyes off a squirmy
infant when you bend to get the pack of wipes.
Whatever the theme for your baby nursery decor, there is one last
piece of furniture that no nursery should ever be without - a
comfortable rocking chair for all the hours you'll spend rocking,
singing and reading to baby as he grows up.
