Things to look for when shopping for baby cribs include the
following:
-
side railings that lower to allow you to pick up your baby easily
- this can be on one or both sides of the crib
-
the ability to adjust the mattress height - this becomes important
as your baby starts to stand up
-
distance between the slats should be no more than 2 3/8" apart
-
avoid baby cribs with decorative cut-outs which for any
adventurous baby can result in a stuck head or limb.
NOTE:Be aware that
many used or antique baby cribs do not meet these standards.
Baby cribs come in all shapes, sizes, colors and materials from wood
right through to iron. There is a great choice of styles available
today. Parents no longer have to settle for the standard rectangular
shape. Baby cribs come in a variety of shapes that not only include
the regular rectangular shape but also include round, which is very
popular, corner shapes.
You
can purchase portable baby cribs, mini-sleepers, cribs that convert
into toddler beds, cradles that allow you to gently rock baby to
sleep, and foldaway cribs for easy transportation. The list is
endless. |
